Love Bites episode 7

Hello everyone. We hope you had a great weekend.  Are you ready for  this weeks episdoes? Well here goes!
Nicolai

I get up and walk over to the broken window and look down at the busy city below. The heady odor of the fumes from exhaust, the smell of the street vendors and the nasty people roaming the streets below flood my senses. Why did I choose to live here instead of my mansion in the country? Oh yes, the easy pickings for feeding. I called the maintenance people to repair the window. I am glad I can control human minds; this would have been a hard one to explain. It also helps to have lots of money when you have a temper like mine. Fixing large picture windows in penthouses are not cheap.

Where the hell is Merah and what on earth is she thinking? Does she think just because she rids the world of a few evil beings that makes her less a monster?

Unbelievable. I have existed for almost three hundred years and I let one small human woman get under my skin enough to threaten not only her existence but mine as well. She just doesn't realize what danger she is in. I am not really worried about myself. I have the ability of mind control. I can make anyone, well almost anyone, forget anything they see or hear. I can even give them suggestions, much like a hypnotist. She isn't quite so lucky. In the wrong hands she could die a thousand times over or just wish for true death.
There are people out there that search for us and will do anything in their power to find the more powerful creatures and hunt us down to rid the world of monsters. At least that is their story. Most of the hunters are only in it for the money, fame and glory. In my opinion some of the do gooders are more monsters than most of us are. People tend to be afraid of what they do not understand. Not all supernatural creatures are evil. Most of us are just trying to live our lives with the hands we were dealt. The few truly evil ones make it bad for the rest of us.

After pacing enough that I should have worn a hole in the carpet, I break down and call Reggie.

“Hello Reggie? This is Nicolas Masterson. I am calling to check on your roommate Merah Slavings.”

“Oh? That was rather sudden wasn’t it? I was just concerned about her. She and I had a few business discussions before the tragic mishap. I felt a little responsible for what happened to her, and thought I would check in. I haven’t seen her on the air since her rescue.”

“You can tell me, Reggie.”

“Thank you and now forget that I called. Erase all my calls from your phone and remove me from any of your notes.”

“Good Bye Reggie.”

Why the hell did she go to Italy with this Glenn? How the hell does Giorgio Rossi figure into all of this? They are going to his vineyard for a vacation to help Merah recuperate. Giorgio takes one smell of her he will know I am her maker. She has no idea how much danger she is in. Karma just seems to love biting my ass.

Merah

Giorgio has sent a private jet to pick us up, but we still have to go through the airport. Even though it’s late at night and it isn't real crowded, there still are a lot of people milling about.

The coppery sulfur scent of blood overloads my senses. My hunger burns inside of me. The three bags of blood Glenn gave me before we left his place didn't satiate me as well as he thinks it has. He doesn’t know that I sneak out after he goes to sleep and supplement his gifts with the warm flowing blood from the necks of vicious rapists and possible murderers. Since sex offenders have to register they are easy to find. Once I find them I can easily tell if they are a threat to society. Evil blood seems to have a scent of its own.

Even warmed in the microwave the bags are no substitute for a writhing victim. I have ridden Manhattan of two this week.

Glenn grabs my hand and pulls me closer. “Merah get a grip, you’re growling.”

“Oops Sorry I thought that was just my stomach.” I smiled.

Glenn shrinks back from me and shudders. “I’m sorry, but no matter how fragile and cute you look the fangs and growling is just plain scary!”

I can’t help but giggle as we board the plane. “Are you sure you want to be alone with me in small plane miles up in the sky?”

“Well I am hoping you don’t decide to bite the hand that feeds you.” He smiles back at me as he gestures me to take the window seat.

“I wish we could have done this during the day. Perhaps when we come home we will. The view is amazing.” His eyes twinkle with excitement.

“Can I ask you a few strange questions?” I wring my hands nervously.

“Sure. I may not be able to answer them all but what I can’t we will ask Giorgio.”

“How did you figure out what I am?”

“I told my uncle Giorgio is a vampire.” He looked out the window.

“That doesn’t tell me how you knew I am one.” I stammered.

“Would you like something to drink?” he gets up and walks to the bar in the back of the plane. “It’s a long story.”

“It’s a long flight. Sure, a bottle of water would be nice.”

He hands me the water, opens his and takes a long drink. I gulp as I watch his Adams apple move as he swallows. He smiles nervously as he notices me licking my lips. Maybe he would feel better if I told him it wasn’t his blood I am hungering for this time.

“I was six when my mother passed away. My father traveled a lot on his job and decided I was better off with my mother's family. I lived in Italy with them until I was eighteen and decided to go to America. Uncle Giorgio, my Grandmother’s brother lived with her. He actually raised me. I knew from the first moment I met him he was different, but of course he would never admit to me what he was.
To make a very long story short, when I was about 10 I crashed my bike into a tree, flipped and went rolling down a hill. It left me paralyzed from the neck down. Giorgio was distraught. He hardly ever left my side. He paid for the best medical care. One night I asked him to make me like him. He was startled at first but I told him I would rather die than to never walk or feel from my neck down. He explained all the gruesome details to me but I said anything was better than this. So he did.” Glen stopped and gazed out the window a faraway look in his eyes. “Well he tried.”

“But you are not a vampire. Not like me. I can tell.” I reach over and take his hand in mine. He smiles and shakes his head.

“No to become a vampire you have to die. Giorgio couldn't make himself kill me. But I healed and he was happy that I didn’t die or become like him.” Glen looks at our entwined fingers and squeezes my hand gently; one corner of his lip turns up in a slight smile.

“That is good that you are healed. Giorgio sounds like a very nice man.” Not the egotistical ass Nicolai is. I thought to myself.

“Well after the healing it left me a bit different. Yes Giorgio has a good heart but he is a very bitter man. He harbors grudges. He doesn't tell me much about it though. He says I don’t need to hear his morbid love history.” Glen smiles again as he looks at me.

“So what do you mean by different?” I try to look out the window instead of his sexy brown eyes. Between the sexy eyes and handholding, I am having a hard time concentrating. I need to find blood soon. I should have stayed with Nicolai. Why do I keep thinking about him when this incredible man has done so much for me in such a short time?

“I can feel things. Anything that has to do with the dead, I can feel them.” He swallows hard and looks back at our hands.

“You mean you see dead people?” I chuckle at my bad joke.

“No just feel. I know when a spirit is around.” He shudders. ”Vampires, well I can see you guys.” He smiled, gazing back up at me.

“Why are you helping me Glenn? Why didn't you turn and run as soon as you figured  out what I am?”

“I really don't know. I could feel something. It’s like I could feel the good and confusion in you. If you listen to Giorgio and do as he says everything will be fine. The more I get to know you the more I like you Merah.” He raised our hands up to his lips and lightly kissed them.

“Glenn, I am a monster. We can be nothing more than friends you understand that right?” I pull my hand back. Crap I didn't see this coming. Nicolai says I can’t get involved with a human. At least not until I learn control and other vampire ways and that could take years he told me.

“Merah, I know what you are; I was almost one myself once. I don’t care. I understand that you need to learn to deal with all this, but I am willing to wait.” He looks at me pleadingly.

“Please Merah, just give Giorgio a chance. You don’t have to be a monster. I don’t think I could bear to turn you over to the Agency.” He looked afraid.

“Agency?” From the look in his eyes I don't think I want to be turned over to this agency.

“The Agency of Supernatural Control. We find unclaimed newlings or rogues, loose spirits, any supernatural that is reported and take care of the problem.” Luckily he was saved by the pilot announcing our landing for us to buckle up.

          ***************************************

There was a car waiting at the airport for us. The inside of the limo looks like a little sitting area with plush seats and a bar. Glenn declines the alcohol and gets  us each a fancy bottle of artisan spring water. I could use a good glass of wine, actually a shot of whiskey would be better.

The ride to Glenn’s Grandmother’s was very pleasant.

“Wow this is even more beautiful than I expected. All the pictures I’ve ever seen don’t do Italy a bit of justice.”

“I love the way your eyes sparkle when you are excited.” Glenn’s smile is very distracting. Our eyes meet.

“You are so beautiful Merah. I hate the way we met, but I’m so glad that you are in my life now.”

He pulls me close and kisses me. Slowly and timidly at first then more passionate as my lips parted automatically, his tounge exploring. He tasted so good, like Cinnamon candy, sweet and warm. Damn I never saw that one coming. Why did I so eagerly respond? I can’t get involved with anyone right now, especially a human. Of course Glenn would have to be smart sexy, considerate, handsome and such a gentleman. Mr. Perfect shows up on my doorstep and I can’t even consider a relationship with him. Not now. Not ever.

He gazed into my eyes for a few seconds, his deep dark chocolate brown eyes shining with desire.

The car came to a stop. Without a word he steps out as the driver opens my door. I stretch my legs while they get our bags from the trunk. Looking around at my surroundings in awe, I let out a low whistle. Amazing. It looks like a picture in one of those travel magazines. A huge mansion sitting on the hill, sheep and goats in a pasture off to one side of the mansion with a red barn in the back, a small pond in the center with a fountain spouting water like a geyser. On the opposite side are rows and rows of green vines.

“Are those grapes?”

“Yes. This is Uncle Giorgio’s vineyard. Nonna lives in the smaller house back behind the grapes. You will meet her tomorrow. Giorgio thought you would like to rest after the flight and ordeal you have been through.”

He gestures back behind the grapevines. A little house sits among gardens of flowers, herbs, and vegetables. It looks like a Thomas Kincaid painting. I take a deep breath. Ahh, just the scent of assorted flowers and herbs, even the smell of the goats and sheep don’t hit my vampire radar. I am no longer overwhelmed by the smell of blood and the loud sounds of the city pounding in my ears. Just the lovely soothing sounds and scents of nature. Fresh and relaxing.

“Oh man Glenn, I can see why your Uncle is staying here and not in the city.” Why did Nicolai choose to live in the city? I can’t seem to quit having my thoughts stray back to him even in such a beautiful place with such a wonderful man that is clearly falling for me.

“We can stay here Merah. You wouldn't have much trouble finding a job as a journalist, that is if you want to go back to work in the public.”

I look over at him. His face is as serious as the tone in his voice. Darn, we have only known each other a few days and he is already acting like he wants a serious relationship. If I did though not only am I a danger to him, but I am positive Nicolai would kill him.

“Glenn, let’s just do one thing at a time. Let me learn to deal with this new me and then we go from there.” Even in the dark I can see the disappointment on his face.

The driver presses a small button as we enter the house and he announces us. A tall thin man in black dress pants and a nice lavender dress shirt appears.

“Sir Glenn, it is a pleasure to see you again. It has been a long time since you came to visit.” He extends his hand to Glenn, but Glenn hugs him instead.

“Yes Ricco, it has been too long. This is Merah Slavings.”

“Miss Slavings, glad to make your acquaintance.” I guess I expected the butler to be in tails or at least a tux, but the driver was in black jeans and white causal shirt.

“Master Giorgio told me to show you to your rooms so you can freshen up before dinner. He will meet you in the dining room in an hour. If you will need more time let me know and I will let him know.”

“An hour will be fine, is that ok with you Merah?”

I nod as I look around. The place is astonishing. Huge crystal chandeliers everywhere. The entire room looks like a showplace and I am only in the foyer. As Ricco leads us through a grand room that looks as if it’s a ballroom, with very few furnishings just pure elegance, I am just awestruck at the beauty of it all. Where Nicolai’s penthouse is decorated sparsely with tasteful antiques and lots of wood, this place was puree Grandeur. Lots of white, even white carpet. Not what I expected at all. I guess I figured a vampire would decorate all in black and red. Evidently not since neither Nicolai nor Giorgio have much of either color in their Décor. Where Nicola had all the antique wood Giorgio has lots of crystal and leather.

My room is right across from Glenn’s. The view is spectacular. I have a view of the vineyard from window. Odd Nicolai’s interior fits this scenery better and Giorgio's decor looks more like what you would expect in the Manhattan penthouse.

My room is very contemporary and posh. The bed railings sleek and simple almost as if they are made of silver. The bedding is thick plush whit down. The only real color is in the exquisite landscape paintings.

I’m at the mirror struggling with my hair, when I hear a quiet rap at the door. I jump at the sudden interruption of the peace and quiet.

“Hi Glenn, wow you look nice.” He has on black jeans hugging his slender body and a pale yellow shirt that really highlights his rich brown eyes.

His mouth dropped open, his eyes wide in surprise, “You look amazing. I won’t be able to take my eyes off you all evening.”

I glance at my reflection in the mirror, glad I slipped in a few simple dresses. I don’t own many, but had a few for special occasions. Mostly just simple classic cut sheaths. I chose a red one tonight. I think the red looks good with my pale complexion and dark brown, almost black hair. I blush as I buckle up the straps on my red strappy heels; I had brought along to go with the dress. I will definitely need to go shopping. Well maybe not since I haven't worked in over a month.

“Ok I am ready.” I take one last look in the mirror, follow Glenn back to the dining room.

The table is set simply yet, elegantly with milky white dishes and beautiful crystal glasses. A large matching vase full of red roses sits in the center with a candle on each side. Very very pretty.

Ricoo seats me while Glenn takes the seat across from me. I guess Giorgio wants to make a grand entrance. “Sir Glenn will be with you soon.” He says casually as he moves gracefully pouring us each some wine. I could smell the sweet tart fragrance of the fermented fruit as soon as he popped the cork.

“Mmm this is really good wine.” Startled by an unexpected man’s voice I nearly spit the red wine all over the white table cloth.

“Grazie, lovely lady. You must be Merah.” His voice smooth and sultry.

He takes my hand and kisses it lightly then moves around the table with the grace of a dancer to Glenn. Glenn stands as the man softly kisses each cheek and hugs him then takes his seat at the head of the table. The resemblance to Glenn is uncanny. Giorgio is an inch or two shorter than Glenn and skinny, his face more angular and eyes more of an almond color than the rich chocolate of Glenn’s. They could pass as brothers. The odd part is that Glenn looks much older than Giorgio, whom looks barley 19. Of course I know he is much older than that, I am just not sure how old he really is.

“It is a pleasure to be home, Giorgio. Thank you for inviting us.” Glenn takes a sip of his wine. “Uncle, your wine gets better every time I taste it.”

“Si. It is good to have you home also. Of course I serve only the best to my family. I hope you plan to stay for a while.” Giorgio’s sexy accent sends shivers down my spine.

“Yes uncle Giorgio, we plan for a while. At least until Merah is ready to go home. If she decides to go home.” Glenn smiles shyly as he glances at me fidgeting around in his seat.

Almost like magic Ricco appears, pours Giorgio a glass of wine and refills our glasses. A short stocky man comes from the kitchen and serves us each a lovely shrimp cocktail. Dinner is mostly small talk and making arrangements to meet Glenn’s Grandmother, Nonna he calls her, and plan my training. After a nice cup of coffee and some fresh fruit for dessert. We retire to our rooms for the night. Or should I say morning since the sun has risen already. After a hug to Glenn, Giorgio embraces me and kisses my cheek taking a long deep breath. He pushes me back abruptly, his eyes huge almost as if angered.

“You say you have no idea who your maker is? That you never saw or spoke to this person?” He glares at me coldly.

Taken off guard by his sudden change attitude I just slowly shook my head.

“I will not tolerate lies.” He growls.

“Uncle Giorgio! Why are you being so rude to our guest?” Glenn steps in front of me as if I may be in danger.

Giorgio just stares for what seems like a long time but is just a few seconds. Then his countenance suddenly softens.

“Forgive me, I lost my manners. It has been a long day and I am sure you both would like some rest. I will see you both tomorrow.” He gave me a very piercing look as he passed me and disappeared down the hall into a door at the far end.

Okay. Not only is he a vampire but he is skitzo.

Glenn and I go to our rooms. I lean on the window sill and look out. With the sun just rising, the view is spectacular. I’m beginning to think coming here isn’t a good idea. Why would Giorgio question my story about my maker? Can he tell who turned me? The look in his eyes after he smelled me sent shivers through my entire body. This time it wasn’t the feel good kind of shivers. It was more like I better catch the first plane out and get my butt back home and make all nice with Nicolai.
I hope you liked this weeks story. Who do you think Giorgio is and why does Nicolai think she is in so much danger? Leave me a comment and let me know what you think. Tomorrow we will be introducing our new Tryster. So come back and check us out!

Manic Monday

                                                                  LOVE BITES-EPISODE 6

Merah

I watch in awe as Glenn talks to Reggie. The man is magnificent. His words are as smooth as silk and his voice so calming. Not to mention, the man is as hot as heck. I keep my eyes glued to Glenn’s handsome face and unruly brown hair so I am not so tempted to look in the shadows for Nicolai, but I can feel him. Part of me wants to see him, the other part wants to rip his sexy head right off his shoulders. He has to know that Reggie is upset. Why doesn't he just come out and help? I can’t very well say; come out, come out, wherever you are. Then say “oh while you’re here, won’t you brainwash my best friend to let me go live with a stranger?” No, I can’t really do that, and fortunately it looks like I'm not going to have to even bother with Nicolai.

Glenn has Reggie eating out of the palm of his hands. Still not so sure what happened back there, I climb into the passenger side of Glenn’s truck while Reggie and Aaron wave and get into Reggie’s car. Can it be possible that Glenn has the ability that Nicolai has? I am so sure Glenn is Human. He smells like Reggie and Aaron, not like Nicolai. Is it possible some Humans can use mind control?
“Glenn, I need to ask you a silly question?”
“Sure Merah, ask away. I am sure you have lots of questions. I am not sure I will be able to answer them until I call my uncle. First let’s get you to my place and settled in. Tomorrow we will try to get you all the answers you need.” He glanced over at me and smiles timidly. Even in the dark I can see the fear in his eyes, smell it in his blood. I’m not so sure I’ll ever get use to smelling blood like it’s a gourmet dinner, but his really smells good. If he is afraid of me why is he helping me?
“Are you able to control people’s minds?” As soon as I said it I knew I made a mistake. If I didn't know about Vampires or who turned me why would I be thinking about mind control?
“Mind control? Where would you get a silly idea like that?” he chuckled. “I think you’re letting to many vampire stories flood your brain. Pretty much most of that is just that; stories.”
“But we both know vampires are very real. I just wondered how you convinced Reggie to let me come with you, a total stranger, so easily.”
“I am good with people, Merah, and he just wants what is best for you. I can help you more than he can.”
“So you told him you were going to feed me blood and call your vampire uncle to teach me the new ways of the world?” I rolled my eyes though I knew he couldn't see me in the dark. Yet I could see him as clear as if we were in bright sunlight.
“Merah you were standing right there. Didn’t you hear a word I said?” His voice sounded a bit worried.
Uh oh! I hope he doesn’t want to know what I was doing instead of listening to him. I can’t very well say I was hoping my maker would come out and save the day when I have told him I have no clue what happened. I am not a very good liar.
“Yes I heard you. I just still can’t figure out how he gave in so easily. Reggie isn't the easiest to convince.”
He chuckled again. He has a nice laugh. It’s a shame we couldn't have met under better circumstance. I could go for a man like this. No Merah, You wouldn't go for a man like him. He is too nice, too sweet. Face it Chickie you like the intrigue. The proverbial tall, dark, mysterious stranger. A man more like Nicolai. Nope, you'd never look twice at this one under normal circumstance.
“I wasn’t kidding when I told him I had a degree in sociology and I can help you get through the trauma.” He turned into a driveway of a small but nice looking house. “We are home.”
Home. Will I ever feel like I’m at home again? “So why are you working in a lab and not in a fancy psychiatrist office?”
He gets out grabs my bags and ushers me towards the door. “I got tired of school and decided I didn’t want to sit in an office. I like lab work. I like the variety my job offers.”
He set down my bags and fumbled with the lock. “Damn I knew I should replace that bulb.”
“Let me.” I take the key and easily unlock the door. “Looks like being able to see in the dark can be handy.” I reach down and grab the bags like they were feather pillows. Odd he is a pretty strong looking man and he was tugging as if they were heavy. OH I must have super human strength too. Maybe some of this vampire stuff will actually be useful. No one will ever drag me in an Alley again.
I follow him into the kitchen. He opens his lunch box and takes out two plastic bags and pushes them towards me. “Here, this was all I could get tonight. Drink this, get a shower and go to bed. I am sure you are exhausted. I will call my Uncle Giorgio and see what advice he has to offer.” He busies himself unpacking his lunchbox, rinsing it out turning it upside down in the sink and then opening a cupboard. “Want some soup? I have chicken noodle and chicken with rice? I will stop and pick up some things after work tomorrow. I promise to not pull a double.”
We eat our soup and I finally down the blood. I am surprised I didn’t gag. I really wanted more. No. I wanted to sink my teeth in his soft brown neck.
Where is the shower?” I get up and look around. He picks up the bowls and rinses them and put them into the dishwasher. After drying his hands, he grabs one of my bags, I take the other and follow him.
“The bathroom is just through that door.” He points to a door off to one side of the room.
“Feel free to use the closet and the dresser. Make yourself at home. It’s not much but at least no one will be bothering you.” He turns to walk out.
“Glenn. Thanks. Really I do appreciate all the help, but maybe my staying here isn't a good idea. I can’t promise I won’t try to … “ I hesitate I don’t want to blurt out rip out your throat.
“I know this is all hard to deal with Merah, But I have watched you on the news and I don't think you would mean me any harm. I also think you have great self-control. It will get easier. I am sure Uncle Giorgio will help. Sleep. I will see you when I get home tomorrow. Stay inside. Use the computer. Just don't leave the house. I will call you tomorrow before I come home. I should be here before midnight with some more blood.” He shut the door. I hear another door open and a lock click, and a bolt slide. I hate to tell him I could probably still open the door like it was made of paper. But I will let him at least feel safe, for now.
The room is pretty nice. No pictures or anything, just a bed, a dresser, and a small desk. I open my largest suitcase and smile. Oh Reggie my love, my laptop. The bathroom is a pale cream with yellow towels and yellow rugs. Not bad. The shower feels good. It also feels better having on some of my own clothes and not a hospital gown or the extra scrubs Glen thoughtfully loaned me. Or Nicolai’s shirt. I look through the plastic bag the hospital put my stuff in; why am I looking for his clothes?
I curl up in the bed under the soft down comforter and stare at the ceiling, trying to sort out my feelings. Why did I run out on Nicolai when days before I was wanting so bad to be in his arms?

I wake up thinking it was morning when in fact it is quite dark. Had I slept all day? Is this my new life; sleeping all day and roaming the streets at night? I jump and grab my ears. It sounds like my head is hung in a church bell. I quickly realize it is a phone. Drats. I still don’t have my cell. Is it at Nicolai’s or do the cops have it? Crap. I was supposed to go to the station for my statements today. I grab the phone by the bed. “Hello?”
“Merah. Did I wake you?” It was Glenn.
“No, I got up a little while ago. I was supposed to go to the station today.”
“I took care of that. We will go tomorrow morning early. I am off tomorrow. Do you have a passport or do we need to get one?” He asked nonchalantly.
“Passport? I have one but not sure if it’s any good. I can’t remember when last I used it.”
“I’ll talk to you more when I get home. Do you like Chinese?”
“You want to go to china for food?” I giggled. I just couldn't resist.
He laughed. I could get use to the calming sound of his voice and his jovial laughter. “No but when we get to Italy I will treat you to the best homemade ravioli you ever had.
“Italy?” I sat on the bed in shock. Wow I have always wanted to go to Italy and with a gorgeous guy?
“Yeah, Uncle Giorgio says it is best we come there. He is more familiar with things there and best to keep you out of sight until you adjust. He reserved us a flight and we will leave tomorrow night. Now how about the Chinese? I am starving.”
“Yeah sweet and sour chicken, and fried rice, and an eggroll, if you don't mind.” I realized I was hungry. Odd I figured all I would want is blood. I guess there is still a lot to learn. How can I drink blood without killing? If I have to kill, is it really wrong to kill those that prey on innocent people? Maybe I can kill two birds with one stone. I chuckle at the play on words. I glanced at the empty suitcase on the desk, wishing now I hadn’t already unpacked. I hate packing. I look at the laptop and open it instead. I pull up Google search; Pedophiles. Wow this will be easier than I thought as page after page appeared before me. Wow and some so close. I look at the clock three hours before Glenn gets here. I smile to myself as I jot down an address.

Nicolai

Damn! How did I not notice she wasn’t with her room-mate? I am getting careless with my old-age. I watch Reggie and his friend go into their house but no Merah. Where the hell is she? Surely she didn't leave with the other man. I had researched her for months. She wasn't dating anyone. Well I am hungry and I need to fed its almost morning and I am too tired to hunt. I will talk to Reggie, and feed from him.
“Hello Reggie?” I smile as I capture his gaze. This one is too easy. He opens the door and I look at his roommate. This one I don't like, but he too is easy to read. I feed quickly and find out what little they had to tell me. I decide I can use Reggie to keep tabs on Merah and tell me more of this Glenn Moore. Something just isn't quite right. Why is this stranger so interested in Merah. I don't believe the therapy stuff for one minute. Tomorrow I will have Reggie give Merah a cell phone. Then I can keep track of her with that. I love technology. I tuck Reggie and his boyfriend nicely into bed erase memory of my feeding and make it look like they had been having sex. All Reggie will remember is to come to my office tomorrow afternoon. I look at them all safe and sound. I could just rip off Reggie's head and send it as a message to Merah; to not be screwing with me but I think better of it. This will be much better. I can get him to talk her into whatever I need. Tomorrow he will give her the phone and some more gentle messages. She will see it my way soon and come to me. I lay down in the bed and smile. Yes soon she will be here where she belongs. She will realize we need each other. I fall asleep and dram of a better life a life with a partner, after all these years I will soon no longer be alone.
The next day I find out from Reggie that Merah didn’t go to give a statement to the police and that she is going the next day. I go and give my statements and make it easy for her. They won’t have many questions and will have all the answers already. She better appreciate my skills. I head home quite pleased with myself. I eat my dinner at the police station. It has been a long couple of days. I figured a quick feed from a sweet receptionist wouldn't hurt. She wouldn't remember a thing. I even had the officer she longed for call her for a date. A lay was the least I could do for her since she so willingly let me drink her lifeblood. I take off my shoes and turn on the TV. How do these pretty young women talk about murders and smile? So it is a pedophile but still, slit throats are never pretty to see. Before I realize it I hear glass break as the remote sails out the window. Shit. Merah, what have you done?

Come on I'll show you:

Love Bites- Episode Five
Merah
I get tired of sitting in the little cubicle in the emergency room, wishing they would turn out the freaking lights. I find myself pacing around looking for the light switch, and then I realize there is only a small fluorescent light on and it’s in the next cubicle. I guess Nicolai even planted turning my lights out into the medic’s head. Maybe he really wants to help me, but I need time to grasp this. It looks like I’ll have nothing but time, so why hurry?
Perhaps I have made a grave mistake not taking him up on his offer to stay with him and learn the new ways of this life that I have been forced into. I have no clue where to go or what to do. He made it clear I couldn’t live with Reggie and Aaron until I learned self-control, or the first time I get hungry I would be feasting on gay roommates instead of murderous vagrants. But no, I have to be stubborn or stupid, and insist on finding my own way.
Now here I am in a hospital, waiting to be released, without a clue as to where to go or what to do next. At least Nicolai claims I shouldn’t need to feed until tomorrow night. Wow, I have a whole twenty two hours to find another way to feed before I go hunting vagrants. Awesome!  At least I don’t have to try to find a coffin to sleep in and I won’t burn in the sunlight when the sun rises. If I can trust what Nicolai tells me.
I assume Nicolai either forgot to tell the medics to hurry and get me out, or he thinks he is being funny making me sit and think about my decision.
I sure shocked the crap out of him when I told him I’d take door number two. The surprise that replaced his look of confidence was priceless. Yeah, yeah, the decision to not go home with Mr. Perfect to his fancy penthouse, not to let him brainwash people to allow me suck their blood painlessly, and having the sexiest man in Manhattan offering to cater to all my needs was really smart. Way to go girl!
I suppose in that moment; the dark dank streets and ripping out strangers throats, nasty ,stinky, serial killers at that, draining them of all their blood, appealed to me more than  life with the super-rich super-sexy man that made me a monster. I am famous for making hasty and usually the wrong decisions.
As I pace around the small room like a caged animal, I can feel him close by. I can tell he isn’t in the building, yet. I can sense him lurking in the shadows. Odd I can’t feel anyone else but him.  I had started to ask him if feeling him was normal, but remembered him complaining about not being able to get into my head. He didn’t know that I had left the penthouse. Yet he found me swiftly. How? Has he been lying to me all along?
No. I could see he was confused when he tried to use his mind to calm me down, but it didn’t seem to work. If he isn’t aware of my ability to feel him, I may be able to use this to my advantage. I will keep this tidbit to myself for now.
I could see it in his eyes that he was glad he couldn’t get into my thoughts.. Maybe he wants me to be his equal, his partner and not his slave. After all, he did say he missed having a companion. Don’t kid yourself girl, that’s what you want to believe. He barely knows you. Why would he choose you for a mate? No. He said companion. What makes me so special?
I jump and throw my hands over my eyes, startled, when a handsome young man came in flipping the light switch on. He isn't very tall, maybe five eight or nine. His hair is short almost a modern military cut. He has the most amazing brown eyes.
“Hi I am Glenn. From the lab.  I am just here to get some blood for a few tests.” He extends his hand in a friendly gesture, as he looks at me shaking his head. “Wow, you look really bad.  I can’t believe they aren’t keeping you for observation. You look like the living dead." If only he knew.  "Would you like me to bring the Doctor back in?”
“NO!” I said in panic. Crap, Nicolai said there would be no questions and no blood tests. Was this man not here when Nicolai brainwashed everyone?
”Glenn, did you just come on shift?” I tried to sound flirty, but sounded nosier than anything. He watches me warily as I continue my pacing nervously around the room.
“Nope. Been here since three this afternoon, actually.  I finally get to go home in an hour or so.” He smiles sweetly taking my arm. He looks shocked, as he notices the dried blood all over my clothes. I jerk my arm back and hisses. He backs away slowly, setting the tray for the blood samples on the small table.
All of a sudden I could sense his fear. His breathing sped up as did his heart-rate. I could feel, no, smell, his blood coursing through his veins. Low growls escapes my throat, my nostrils seems to flare and my teeth, fangs, begin to burn again, like they had earlier. Did Nicolai have fangs when we met for lunch the afternoon I followed him. Am I able to conceal them? Oddly he didn’t run out the door.
Glenn walks over to the light switch, flips it off and shuts the door. He turns back to me but stays close to the door. I could still feel the panic in him as he tries hard to hide it, like you would faced with a dangerous animal. “How long have you been….” his voice trails as he tries to search for the word. “Dead.” he said after a few seconds of careful thought.
“I may look like I have been through Hell and back, since I was kidnapped by a serial killer," And killed by a drunken bum and turned to a vampire by a crazed….. Vampire.  If he’d been through what I have last four days he wouldn’t look so darn hot either. "But I assure you I am not dead." I tried to sound convincing, but the look of sheer terror on his face tells me I am not a very good actress.
“You watch too much TV.  I am the same me I have always been, except for a little exhausted.” I smile as I sit back on the edge of the bed.
He walks around me to the window, looks out gazing into the darkness, and then closes the blinds turning back to me.
“Are you alone?” He looks hard at the door like maybe he should just leave.
         I nod
“From the looks of you, I would venture to guess you’re a newling. My question is; where is your maker?  Makers never let newlings out of their sight for years. Sometimes takes 10 to 20 years for a newling to adjust. A vampire usually doesn’t turn a human and let them go.” He glances furtively back at the window as if any minute someone or something was going to jump in and eat him.
“Okay. So what makes you such an expert?  Are you some sort of paranormal creature, or do you just read too much science fiction?”
If Vampires are real, then I am sure other things such as werewolves and witches probably are too. And if supernatural creatures do exist, then Hunters probably do, too. It looks like I have a lot to learn If I plan on surviving.
I sure don’t want to have to crawl back to Nicolai on my knees, but it’s beginning to look as if I have no choice. I need to learn how to feed. I need to know if it’s possible to drink blood without killing, and how to make it less painful for the victim. I have no clue how often I have to feed or what will happen f I don’t.
“No. I am human. I had a relative who was a vampire. I know this sounds crazy but I may be able to help you some. But first I need to know more about you. I have to be able to trust you. Believe me, I know from experience trusting a vampire is not an easy feat.” He said the last part with a hint of remorse. He said 'had'. Vampires don’t die of old age. Did he have to dispose of the so called relative?
“And I’m supposed to trust you, why?  Just because you said you had a relative that was a vampire? How do I know you aren’t a hunter and planning on staking me?” I try to look menacing, rising from the bed walking slowly toward him.
He gasps as he backs into the wall looking like a cornered animal. I stop leaving very little personal space.
“First of all, staking would only stop you for a while. You would more than likely recover. Then you would be all pissed off.” He sidesteps and reaches for the door handle.  “I’m smart enough to know not to piss off a vampire. That would be like sticking a bloody hand in a shark tank. So if you know hunters exist you have must also know who turned you. How else would you know about the hunters?”
“No. I do not know who turned me. I am just guessing about the hunter thing. I think it is suffice to say if vampires and other creatures exist so would hunters.” I lied. It just didn’t seem  smart to rat Nicolai out. Not yet anyway. I may be needing some answers from him still.
“Were you a Vampire before you came up missing?” He looks thoughtful.
“No.” I say as I start pacing the room. I really just want to get out of this small room. I am exhausted. In the movies Vampires never got tired, or ate food I thought as my stomach growled.
“So, it had to happen the night you came up missing.” He tapped his forefinger on his lip.
He sure has some really kissable lips.
“Oh. Yes, or sometime after that.”  I responded  as I snapped out of my reverie. Why am I thinking about kissing a stranger when I have much more important things to deal with? Like not eating my friends.
“So that puts you about three to four days old. Right?” He snaps his fingers. “Focus, I need answers if you want me to help you, and time is running short.”
“Yeah, I suppose so.” I am getting tired. I lay back down on the bed staring at the ceiling. If I don’t look at him I won’t think inappropriate thoughts. Like how nice it would be if he was in this small bed with me. Nope that didn’t work.
“Well you can’t go back to where ever you were staying. Do you want to stay with me?  Until you get a grip on things, that is.”  He smiled shyly.
“I don’t want to put you out, but yeah I do need a place to go and to find out everything I will need to know to survive. I will help with the rent and utilities.” I answer in defeat.
“I can’t figure out why your maker just left you. Makers generally turn people for a reason and only rogues would turn someone and leave them. The only other option was that the vampire ran into foul play.” Then his face lit up like he had won bingo. “Unless you were somewhere else when you were turned and somehow managed to evade your captor. That would explain it, but also would mean you and whoever helps you are in grave danger.”
“I don’t want to put you in any danger. Maybe I should just go now.” I never thought about  it but he is right. If Nicolai finds out this man knows my secret he will kill him.
“Where would you go?” He asked.
“I have a home. I have a roommate that is probably worried sick about me.”
“I know what you are and how to help you adjust. Your roommate would be in grave danger from both you and your maker when it finds you."
“You mean if it finds me.” I sat back up.
“No, when. It’s only a matter of time. You carry its blood, it can track you. It won’t leave you alive. That would be too much danger to it.” He walked over to the table and started fiddling with the glass tubes he had brought in for the blood tests.
“Okay. I’ll go home with you. But I insist on paying my share. Will I be able to keep my job?” I asked, trying to figure if I had any other options.
“Yes. You will need to take a little time off until we see how you adjust to feeding. You seem to have a good sense of control. You’re not trying to eat me, but that could be because you just fed.” He smiled a smile that would melt a glacier.
“Is there any way I can get a phone? I need to call my roommate and my boss. I am sure I can get at least a week off. That is if they haven’t fired me already.” I added, realizing I had only been there a year and the no show policy is three days. I am going on about five.
“I get off work in about an hour. You can borrow my cell and call your roommate. Have them pack you some clothes and bring them by here. It will look like your leaving with her. You don’t want to act like anything is different. Keeping your job will be a plus. Your resources and computer files will come in very handy. ”
“Him. My roommate is a him.”
Glen’s eyes get big. “Well that will be a hard one to explain. How do you plan on telling your boyfriend you’re moving out and in with a stranger?”
“Oh. No. Reggie isn’t my boyfriend. You’re more his type than I am.” I chuckled. “ But don’t worry. He has a boyfriend. Actually, Aaron lives with us, too. ” Hmmm how will I convince Reggie I am moving in with a stranger. He knows me too well and knows  that isn’t something I would normally do. Damn. I am going to have to call Nicolai after all. He can fix Reggie to not question me.
“I will think of something. Let’s deal with one thing at a time. Now we get you to my place and hide you. Then I will make a few calls to round you up food.” He hands me his phone, takes the tray of tubes he brought in for the tests, and leaves.
“Hey Reg.” I have to hold the phone away from my ear as Reggie screams.
“Merah! Girlfriend! I have been worried out of my mind. I just saw on the news that you were rescued. Oh my goodness, you must be scared! Where are you?” I could tell by his voice he had been crying.
“I am at the hospital.  No, I am being released. Can you pack me a suitcase?  I am going to stay with a friend for a few days at least. I’ll explain more later. Please don’t ask any questions and I promise to explain it all in a day or so.” Hopefully I can convince Nicolai to brainwash Reggie. Aaron won’t be an issue he hates me anyway.
Reggie had not shown up when Glen came in to see if I was released. I hadn’t been, so he went and got a nurse. She looked surprised I was even there, and got my paperwork. Glen waited outside the hospital doors. Darn. I need to call Nicolai but I have no number except his office. That won’t be open this hour of the night. I guess I’ll have to do my best with Reggie and Aaron and then hopefully Nicolai will brainwash them tomorrow. I see Reggie and Aaron approaching the entrance.
Reggie grabs me and gives me a big hug. “Girl, I am so glad you’re not dead, but Hon, you sure look close to it”. Close? Yes I’d say very close.
Aaron glares at me. He doesn’t look too happy that I’m not. I guess some things never change. After a few minutes, a Navy blue pickup truck pulls up to the curb. Glenn gets out and extends his hand.
“Reggie, Aaron this is Glenn. I am going to stay with him a few days at least. Please don’t ask questions until I get all my statements made. Okay?”
Reggie grinned from ear to ear, his approval of Glen was apparent. Aaron, on the other hand, was none too happy. He pulled Reggie close to him.  I guess Aaron would be jealous of a dog.
Then I could feel him. Nicolai. Standing in the shadows, watching, listening. It was all I could do not to turn my head and look into the shadows to the left of the hospital. I couldn’t see him, but I knew he was there. I could also tell he was not happy at all.  At least I won’t have to call his office tomorrow. I have the feeling I will be talking to him very soon.
