Behind Closed Doors

Behind Closed Doors

As I tried to kill time waiting for our first official date, it never once crossed my mind how this relationship had started, how an innocent crush on a high school teacher had turned into so much more. Instead, even though I knew it was stupid, the only thing I could think about was how I didn’t have anything to wear that would impress anyone, much less an adult.

After hours of trying on almost everything I owned, I eventually went with my black bra and panties. They were the closest thing to sexy that I had. I stood in front of the mirror in them, trying to decide whether or not it would be disappointing when the clothes came off again.

As I finally got ready to leave the small apartment that my mom and I lived in I tried to think of what my gutsy best friend Bri would do, and how she would prepare. All I could think of was to toss an extra tube of lip gloss into my purse. Not being able to think of anything else, or any other way to stall, I grabbed my purse and back pack and left my bedroom.

As anxious as I was to get tonight started, the drive to Spencer’s apartment went by much too quickly as far as I was concerned. I had been sitting in my car for several long moments now, trying to collect myself. Suddenly my jeans felt too tight and all wrong, my shirt felt as if it was clingy in all the wrong places and too low cut, like I was trying too hard.

After checking my hair in my rear view mirror for the sixth time the clock caught my eye. It had been almost eleven minutes and was now officially seven o' four. My stomach flipped with nerves and excitement as I pulled my key out of the ignition, dropped the key ring in my purse, and left the car.

The heels of my black pumps clicked as I climbed the stairs. I counted them as I climbed, twenty five, twenty six, twenty seven, twenty eight, twenty nine, and I was at the third floor. I sped up as I walked down the hall, my pace quickening as excitement started to overcome my nerves. I couldn’t help but smile as I started watching the numbers on the apartment doors. Three ten. Three twelve. Three sixteen. This was it. Readjusting my purse on my shoulder I knocked.

Almost as soon as Spencer opened the door to let me in, Mitzy, the two year old Australian Terrier that his sister had given him, ran and jumped at my knees. The familiarity of the small dog who I adored finished putting the last of my nerves at ease. I scooped up the little dog, her tail wagging so furiously her whole body shook, and stepped into the apartment.

How’s my pretty girl?” I asked, kissing the top of her head and scratching behind her right ear like she loved. Spencer chuckled and closed the door behind me.

She’s just as spoiled as ever, the little brat,” Spencer answered for her. He pretended not to love her as much as I did, that she was just a burden he was stuck with when his sister moved out of state and couldn’t keep her, but I knew better than to believe that.

Because people who don’t care about their dogs are the ones that spoil them, right?” I asked as I gave her one last kiss and set her down. Mitzy gave a happy little bark before scampering over to her bed by the bookshelves on the other side of the room.

Come on you little smart ass, dinner is almost ready,” Spencer said, choosing to ignore my question. Instead, he lightly brushed my arm and led me to the kitchen.

An hour later we had finished desert and I insisted on helping Spencer clean up the kitchen. What started as my attempt to help wash and put away dishes quickly turned into a playful splash war. A splash war that Spencer won when he grabbed the squirting hose thing on the sink (what are those actually called, anyway?) and preceded to start squirting me with it. My giggles had pushed my nerves away as I held onto him to try to stay standing as my laughter came in waves and I fought to get a “I surrender” out between them.

I love your laugh,” Spencer said softly, smiling as he gently brushed my damp bangs behind my ear, slowly leaning forward until our faces were just inches apart. Pushing down the last of the butterflies that were still fluttering around in my stomach I stood on tip toe and softly pressed my lips against his.

It was a soft kiss, and it didn’t last more than a few seconds.

It was perfect.

I could feel the electricity between us. As I pulled away, I smiled up at him, just then noticing his hands on my hips.

How about that movie?” he asked as he looked down at me, smiling.

That sounds great,” I told him, my voice coming out softly. I loved that sparkle in his eyes when he looked at me like that. Spencer released his gentle hold on my hips but took my hand in his, intertwining our fingers as he led me into the next room.

I absolutely loved Spencer’ apartment. It was small, yes, but it was lived in, homey. It was perfect. He gestured over to the couch as he knelt down in front of front of the DVD player.

Once he had the movie in, Spence came and joined me on the couch. We ended up laying on our sides with him behind me, holding me close, his hand resting lightly on my side, teasing a small patch of exposed skin. The DVD began with short clips from the movie before going to the main menu. I twisted around so that I could see Spencer, a smile playing on my lips.

The Silence of the Lambs?” I asked raising my eyebrows. “This is what comes to mind as a romantic date-night movie?” I tried to hold back my smile, but it wasn’t working.

Well, you said over the summer that it was one of your favorite movies,” Spencer explained, “But we can watch something else, if you know, you had something else in mind,” I had never seen him blush before, it was cute, kind of sexy.

Not at all,” I said kissing his cheek, “This is great.”

Now I had completely intended to roll back over and watch the movie but as I went to twist back around Spencer caught my waist, shifting us so that he was now on his back with me on top of him. I was surprised, but almost instantly turned on.

Hey, beautiful,” Spencer whispered running his hands up and down my back before resting them on my hips. I smiled slyly before pressing my lips to his. He moaned softly as I gently bit his lip before he slid his hands under my shirt and pulled it off.

I could feel a faint blush creeping into my cheeks as Spencer studied my bare torso and chest, wishing that I had something sexier than my pain black bra whose only embellishment was that it fastened in the front. I sat up the rest of the way, straddling his waist as I stared to slowly unbutton his shirt.

Once I had him free of his shirt I slowly began kissing down his chest. I tried to let go of myself consciousness and let instinct take over. Spencer seemed to pick up on this and gently ran his hand over my bare shoulder.

Katie, look at me,” his words were soft and I looked up at him through my thick lashes. “We don't have to do this you know, I'm never going to ask you to do something you don't want to.” His words were kind, his eyes full of sweet understanding and slight worry.

I want to,” I whispered, noticing for the first time just how inviting the smell of his cologne was.

Are you sure?”

Instead of an answer I leaned down, my lips meeting his in a soft, but passionate kiss. I had never been more sure of anything in my life.
