Sunday Spotlight
Meet Jan Ruth our first Sunday
Author spotlight guest an author of contemporary women’s fiction.
Jan Ruth was born in Bowden,
Cheshire, and moved to North Wales in 1998, although she has always maintained
a strong connection with the area from a much earlier age. Her feel for the
Welsh landscape is evident in all of her books.
Jan writes contemporary
women's fiction. Her style has been described as between two genres-not light
enough for romance but not literature either-it sits somewhere between the two.
Jan Ruth’s love stories
contains strong, identifiable characters, about family life and relationships
Her first novel attracted a
London agent struggling to start her own venture; that of publishing love
stories with a difference. Her second novel Wild Water, attracted another
London agent, but again failed to find the right niche with a publisher.
She has written 3 full
length novels, all very character driven and all set in North Wales, a rugged
mountainous area of the UK, also known as Snowdonia.
Undeterred, Jan has
continued to write, believing her market is out there. She says that 'Amazon
kindle is an amazing platform for writers, in that all books successfully
published or not- is available to a worldwide audience, but most importantly to
the reader, who is after all the most important judge.'
About Jan’s Books
'I like to think my books
convey some serious threads with a good blend of humour, a balance of light and
dark. Different, I feel from the majority in that I often write from the male
perspective.'
'I love the process of
writing. There are not many jobs where you get to play God and be devil’s
advocate. Sometimes I am astonished at the pearls of wisdom that must be deeply
buried in my brain. At all other times I find myself frantically holding down
the delete button.'
'I think you have to be a
little mad to enjoy the compulsive and intrusive way it can take over your life
- but then I think it has to be this way to have the same vitality for the
reader. It’s almost like being possessed by several other people!'
